Building Construction

This comprehensive Construction Technology program is designed to equip students with the essential knowledge and hands-on skills required throughout the key phases of residential and light commercial construction. The curriculum is divided into three core focus areas: structural framing, mechanical systems, and interior and exterior finishing.

Students begin by exploring the framing phase of construction, gaining experience with floor systems, wall framing, ceiling joists, roof structures, roofing applications, and building envelope systems. Emphasis is placed on reading construction plans, accurate measurements, and safe tool usage.

The program then advances to the mechanical systems that bring a structure to life. Students learn the fundamentals of plumbing, electrical wiring, and HVAC installation, along with essential safety practices. This phase focuses on the systems that support comfort, utility, and code compliance within a finished structure.

Finally, students apply their skills in the finishing phase, where they learn techniques for both exterior and interior finishes. Key topics include siding and moisture protection, drywall, trim, stair layout, and cabinetry. Attention to detail, craftsmanship, and functional design are emphasized to ensure a professional-quality result.

By the end of the program, students will have developed a strong foundation in construction techniques and systems, preparing them for entry-level careers in the building industry or advanced training in specialized trades.
