Modern Manufacturing

The Modern Manufacturing course prepares students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in today’s fast-paced manufacturing industry. Students explore essential concepts in maintenance, quality, measurement, manufacturing processes, production, and equipment operations while developing hands-on skills that connect classroom learning to real-world industry applications.

Throughout the course, students learn the importance of cleaning, inspection, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting in maintaining safe and efficient manufacturing environments. Areas of study include basic electrical circuits, mechanical power, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, lubrication, bearings and couplings, belt and chain drives, and machine automation and controls. Students also develop an understanding of quality practices and measurement, including blueprint reading, basic and precision measurement, quality systems, and statistical process control.

In addition, students gain knowledge of manufacturing processes and production systems, including mechanical principles and linkages, material quality control, machining processes, machine tooling, equipment procedures, production planning and workflow, and production control. By combining technical knowledge with practical applications, Modern Manufacturing equips students with the skills, problem-solving abilities, and industry awareness needed to pursue careers in advanced manufacturing and related technical fields.
